EO4SURE Advances Fisheries Monitoring Solutions in Cape Verde with IMAR

On 26 June 2026, the EO4SURE project held a technical follow-up meeting with the Institute of the Sea (IMAR) of Cabo Verde to present the first results of the project and discuss the next steps in the development of Earth Observation solutions for fisheries monitoring.

The meeting built on the collaboration established during the project’s Living Lab activities and focused on refining the EO4SURE use case for Cabo Verde. Discussions addressed the development of Earth Observation products to support the monitoring of SDG 14.4.1 (Sustainable Fish Stocks) and SDG 14.7.1 (Sustainable Fisheries Contribution to GDP), including the identification of reference datasets, methodological approaches for algorithm development, and the operational requirements of national stakeholders.

During the meeting, the EO4SURE team presented the first outcomes of the ongoing work and gathered feedback from IMAR’s technical experts to guide the next phase of development. The discussion also helped identify follow-up activities aimed at improving the proposed products and ensuring they respond effectively to national monitoring requirements.

This technical exchange represents another important step in EO4SURE’s co-design approach, ensuring that the solutions being developed are shaped through continuous collaboration with Champion Users. By working closely with IMAR throughout the project, EO4SURE aims to deliver operational tools that address Cabo Verde’s priorities for sustainable fisheries management and SDG reporting.
