EO4SURE Project Officially Launched
On May 8th, 2025, the EO4SURE project was officially launched at the European Space Agency’s ESRIN facility in Frascati, Italy. Funded by ESA under the EO4SDG programme, EO4SURE is a two-year initiative focused on co-developing Earth Observation (EO)-based data pipelines to support SDG monitoring and reporting in both developing and developed countries.
The project aims to integrate EO technologies into national reporting systems, providing policymakers with reliable and consistent data to support better decision-making in the preservation of inland, coastal and ocean water resources. It also helps countries align their SDG reports with international standards.
The project addresses six SDG indicators, including 6.4.2 (water stress), 6.6.1 (water-related ecosystems), 7.b.1 (sustainable energy infrastructure), 14.1.1 (marine pollution), 14.4.1 (sustainable fisheries), and 14.7.1 (fisheries contribution to GDP). EO4SURE is being implemented in Denmark, Portugal, Cape Verde, and São Tomé and Príncipe, with active involvement of national Champion Users from statistical offices and environmental authorities. The project is led by Indra Deimos, with technical leadership from DHI GRAS and user engagement coordinated by the AIR Centre.
